Tripura, 17 August 2025: The state government aims to create opportunities for the development of young talent in football and other sports. To achieve this, several sports infrastructure projects have been developed under government initiatives. Tripura has no shortage of talented players in football as well as other sporting disciplines.
Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha said this while inaugurating a friendly football match between former players of Kolkata’s East Bengal and Mohun Bagan clubs at Umakanta Stadium today. The Chief Minister kicked the ball to mark the official start of the M. L. Saha Memorial Legends Cup Football Match.

The Chief Minister further said that the main purpose of organizing such matches with renowned players of clubs like East Bengal and Mohun Bagan is to inspire the present generation of talented players in the state. The government wants the youth of Tripura to excel in football and other sports and bring laurels to the state at national and international levels. Modern sports infrastructure is being developed in Agartala as well as in every district of the state.


Before the match, the Chief Minister was introduced to the players of both teams. He was accompanied by Youth Affairs & Sports Minister Tinku Roy, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder, and All India Football Federation (AIFF) President Kalyan Chaubey, among others.
In the friendly match, East Bengal Club defeated Mohun Bagan 1–0. After the game, Youth Affairs & Sports Minister Tinku Roy, Tripura Football Association President Pranab Sarkar, and other dignitaries handed over the prizes to the winning team.
