Tripura, 11 August 2025: In a joint initiative by Weekend Do It Adventure and Kanya Katha Social Organization, a felicitation ceremony was held at the Agartala Press Club to honor Piyali Deb — the first woman from Tripura to successfully climb Mount Elbrus, the highest peak in Europe.

On August 3, at around 6 a.m. Russian time, Piyali reached the summit of Mount Elbrus, which stands at 5,642 meters above sea level. By achieving this feat, she set a historic record for Tripura, conquering one of the renowned Seven Summits of the world.
Speaking to the media, On the 3rd of August, I summited Mount Elbrus, the highest peak in Europe. The mountain stands at 5,642 meters. Normally, climbing such peaks requires completing basic mountaineering courses, but I hadn’t done any of them. This caused some challenges for me, and on summit day, the weather was extremely bad, which forced me to use an oxygen cylinder toward the end. Still, I had the determination to finish what I had started. After trekking through the entire night, I reached the summit at 6 a.m. Russian time.”

She added that she was accompanied by a Nepali guide who supported her throughout the climb. “From the base camp, it usually takes three to four days — two days for acclimatization and one day for practice, which includes learning self-protection techniques and how to use the equipment. On the final day, I started my climb at midnight and trekked all night to reach the summit in the morning,” she said.
Mount Elbrus is one of the Seven Summits, representing the highest mountain on each continent. Piyali’s achievement marks a significant milestone in Tripura’s mountaineering history.
