Tripura, 11 August 2025: Tension gripped Kalyanpur Bazaar after the body of a man, aged around 50, was recovered from a locked shop. While locals identified him as Ratan Banik, police records mention the deceased as Pratap Barman, son of late Harichandra Barman, a resident of Gopalnagar.
According to locals, the man had been mentally unstable for a long time and lived in the market area, away from his family. He was often seen intoxicated and lying unwell in various parts of the bazaar. For the past two days, the shop where he stayed had remained closed, raising suspicion among residents. This morning, members of the market committee informed the police.
On receiving the information, police arrived at the spot, broke open the locked shop in the presence of locals and market committee members, and found the body lying on the floor. The body was later sent to Kalyanpur Community Health Centre for post-mortem.
Police said the deceased’s family has been informed and is on the way. No signs of foul play have been detected so far, but the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem report. The incident has triggered mixed reactions across Kalyanpur.
