Khowai, August 6, 2025:
In a shocking cross-border theft, a group of Bangladeshi thieves allegedly crossed the India-Bangladesh international border and broke into a house in Tripura’s Khowai district, stealing two cows in the dead of night.
The incident took place late Tuesday night in Shastri Para under Paharmura Gram Panchayat, a village close to the international border. According to locals, the intruders broke open the cowshed of Subodh Debnath and initially took away four cows.
Hearing noises, Subodh’s family rushed out and saw the cowshed door wide open. As they raised an alarm, neighbors also came out and chased in the direction of the fencing. Near the barbed wire fence along the Indo-Bangladesh border, villagers spotted two of the stolen cows on this side and managed to recover them. However, the remaining two cows were taken across the border by the thieves and could not be recovered.
The incident has triggered outrage among residents of the border area, who expressed serious concern over the recurring incidents of theft and questioned the effectiveness of the Border Security Force (BSF), which is tasked with guarding the international boundary.
Villagers have demanded stricter surveillance and patrolling to prevent such cross-border crimes in the future.
