New Delhi, August 4 | SHABD: The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day on Sunday as a mark of respect to former Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren, who passed away earlier in the day at the age of 81.
Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar informed members about Soren’s demise and expressed condolences before adjourning the House. Soren, a Rajya Sabha MP and founding president of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), had been undergoing treatment in New Delhi for kidney-related complications and had been on life support for the past month.
Meanwhile, proceedings in the Lok Sabha were disrupted amid an uproar by opposition members over various issues. The House was adjourned till 2:00 PM following continued protests.
The veteran leader’s death has cast a shadow over the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament, with tributes pouring in from across the political spectrum.
