Tripura, 31 July 2025: In a major move to recognize and respect the traditional leadership of Indigenous communities, the Tripura Government has increased the monthly honorarium of Samajpatis also known as Hoda Okras from ₹2,000 to ₹5,000.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced the decision following its approval in the latest Cabinet meeting. The revision is being hailed as a long-awaited step towards acknowledging the vital role of these community leaders in preserving social harmony, cultural values, and conflict resolution within tribal society.
Significantly, the amendment now allows even government employees and pensioners, who serve or have served as Samajpatis, to be eligible for the honorarium—marking an inclusive expansion of the scheme.
The move underlines the state government’s continued commitment to Indigenous welfare and its efforts to strengthen grassroots governance by empowering traditional institutions.
