North Tripura, July 31, 2025: In a significant breakthrough, the North Tripura District Police have arrested five more members of a notorious dacoit gang involved in the recent armed robbery at Ichai Lalchhara village under Kadamtala Police Station. This brings the total number of arrests in the case to eight. Alongside the arrests, police recovered country-made firearms, live cartridges, sharp weapons, gold and silver ornaments, and several looted items.
The robbery occurred late on the night of July 26, when an armed gang stormed the home of Subrata Kumar Eshe and looted cash, jewellery, and mobile phones. A case was promptly registered at Kadamtala Police Station (Case No. 41/25) under Sections 331(4) and 309(4) of the Indian Justice Code.

Following the initial investigation, two suspects — Kompu Shukla Das (28) and Jamir Ali (47) — were detained. Based on information obtained during their interrogation, another key accused, Selim Uddin, was arrested from the Khadimpur area under Churaibari Police Station. Selim’s questioning led police to identify five more suspects.
Acting on this intelligence, a joint team led by Additional SP Kamal Debbarma, SDPO B. Zarin Puia, and Kadamtala OC Jayanta Debnath conducted a late-night operation across the Dharmanagar subdivision, resulting in the arrest of five more individuals: Pangkhi Mia (39) of Suraspur, Abdul Kayes (40) of Kalachhara, Roshan Ali (34) of South Kadamtala, Enam Uddin (24) of Ichai Sonapur, and Rahim Ali (23) of East Phulbari.
During the operation, police recovered one country-made firearm, seven live cartridges, sharp weapons including knives and a hammer, gold and silver ornaments, as well as Indian and Bangladeshi SIM cards. Previous arrests had already yielded seven sets of Army and BSF uniforms, four shirts, twelve sarees, a large amount of cash, and additional weapons.
All eight accused will be presented before the District and Sessions Court in Dharmanagar on Thursday, with police seeking custody for further interrogation. Authorities suspect a larger network may be involved, possibly extending beyond state borders.
Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai assured that such criminal activities will be dealt with firmly, and that further arrests may follow as the investigation progresses. The swift and coordinated police action has restored a sense of security among residents of Kadamtala and surrounding areas, who had been troubled by a recent rise in thefts and robberies.
