Khowai, July 30, 2025: With the 79th Independence Day approaching, the Khowai district administration is actively preparing to celebrate the occasion with full honour and patriotic fervour. Like every year, the main district-level event will be held at the Khowai Airport Ground on August 15.
A preparatory meeting in this regard was held today at the District Magistrate’s Conference Hall under the chairmanship of District Magistrate Rajat Panth. Addressing the officials, the DM urged all departments and stakeholders to come forward and ensure that the celebration is conducted with dignity and wide public participation.
Among those present at the meeting were Additional District Magistrates Abhijit Chakraborty and Abhedananda Baidya, Khowai SDM Shirshendu Debbarma, SDFO Sushmita Das, and officials from various line departments including police, fire services, PWD, health, TSR, BSF, sports, social welfare and the ICA department.
As per the schedule, the main event will begin at 9:10 AM on August 15 with the hoisting of the national flag by the chief guest, followed by a cultural programme. A Prabhat Pheri involving local artists will be held in the early morning, while the national flag will be hoisted at government and semi-government offices, as well as individual households, at sunrise.
Sri Aurobindo’s birth anniversary will be observed at 7:30 AM at Rishi Aurobindo Park.
A series of events have also been lined up on the eve of Independence Day. On August 14, a sit-and-draw competition for children will be held at 7:10 AM at Khowai Government Higher Secondary School, followed by a volleyball tournament at 3 PM at the same venue. In the evening, a street play will be performed at Subhash Park.
On August 15, fruits and sweets will be distributed at 11 AM among inmates of Khowai Sub-Jail, patients at the District Hospital, and residents of Ampura Orphan Boys’ Home. At 3 PM, a friendly football match will be organised, followed by a district-wide tree plantation drive at 4 PM. The day will conclude with a colourful cultural programme at the New Town Hall featuring performances by local artists and cultural groups.
The district administration is making all necessary arrangements to ensure a smooth and meaningful celebration of the nation’s 79th Independence Day.
