Tripura, 28 July 2025: Following a news report, the construction of a small bridge of substandard quality has been halted by the MDC (Member of District Council). Allegations of corruption surfaced regarding the bridge construction, including improper use of construction materials. It was reported that the mixture (mortar) being used in the bridge was not in accordance with government tender guidelines.
The MDC warned that if materials outlined in the official project specifications are not used, the construction work will remain suspended. The incident occurred in the Brindaban Para area of Charilam Block.
According to sources, a small bridge was under construction on the road leading to Brindaban Para of Rongmala Village in Charilam Block. However, even after a light rainfall, the four corners of the bridge collapsed during construction. As a result, local residents were forced to cross the area using a temporary bamboo bridge.
Several people, including students and villagers, have been injured while using this makeshift bamboo structure. After the news was widely reported in the media, MDC Umashankar Debbarma of 19-Amtali Golaghat Constituency, along with Sanjeev Debbarma, Sub-Zonal Chairman of Bishramganj under TTAADC, rushed to the site on Monday.
The MDC alleged that the contractor was not constructing the bridge according to the designated space and specifications. He has demanded immediate administrative action to address the issue.
