Agartala, July 19: In a significant development, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has invited the Tipra Motha party for discussions on the growing concern of illegal migration from Bangladesh to India. This follows sustained pressure, public uproar, and persistent advocacy by Tipra Motha, led by party supremo and royal scion Pradyot Manikya Debbarma.
Sharing the news via social media, Pradyot wrote, “After continuous uproar and media attention from all of us from Tipra Motha, the Election Commission of India has invited us to discuss the matter of illegal migration from Bangladesh to India on the 23rd of July.”
Calling on critics and fellow citizens to rise above party lines, Pradyot added, “At least we are trying to protect our next generation and looking beyond party politics. This is not just a fight of Tipra Motha party but every Indian. Please rise above party politics and unite against illegal migration.”
The issue of unchecked migration across the Indo-Bangladesh border, particularly in the Northeastern states, has long remained a contentious topic, with regional parties like Tipra Motha voicing concerns over its socio-political and demographic impacts.
The upcoming meeting with the ECI is expected to provide a crucial platform for Tipra Motha to present their concerns and demand concrete measures to address the long-standing issue.
