Manughat, July 17: A tragic incident unfolded in Manughat,https://ica.tripura.gov.in/meeting-various-issues-manughat under Dhalai district on Tuesday morning. Two minor schoolgirls from Bichitra Para, both students of Class VII at a local school, attempted suicide by jumping into the Manu River.
According to family sources, the girls were emotionally distressed after being scolded the previous night for neglecting their studies. As per routine, they left home early around 5 AM, reportedly to collect flowers. However, they did not return home by morning, prompting their families to begin searching for them.
At around 8:30 AM, the girls were spotted near the Manughat bridge. On seeing their family members, one of the girls panicked and jumped into the Manu River. The second girl followed immediately.
The families alerted the fire service without delay. Firefighters rushed to the scene and managed to rescue both girls alive. They were initially taken to Manu Hospital and later referred to Dhalai District Hospital for advanced medical care.
According to hospital sources, both girls are currently in stable condition but remain in a state of severe psychological distress.
