New Delhi, July 16: A 24-member delegation of young political leaders from 14 different parties in Sri Lanka has arrived in India for a two-week visit to strengthen ties between the two neighboring countries.
On the first day of their visit, the delegation met India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri in New Delhi. He highlighted the importance of their visit in taking the India-Sri Lanka partnership forward, in line with India’s ‘Neighborhood First’ approach.
This visit comes not long after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trip to Sri Lanka in April this year—his fourth visit since 2015—where he and President Dissanayake discussed ways to deepen ties rooted in history, culture, and people-to-people connections.
Both countries have been working closely on various areas, including connectivity, development projects, economic cooperation, defense, and the long-standing issue of fishermen. During recent virtual interactions, the two leaders also launched projects such as 5,000 solar rooftop units at religious sites in Sri Lanka, a modern warehousing facility in Dambulla, and the 120 MW Sampur Solar Power Project to promote clean energy.
India has reiterated its strong support for Sri Lanka’s economic recovery and stability, reflecting steady progress in bilateral relations.
