Tripura, July 10: In a heartbreaking incident, a 5-year-old girl named Rungnangti Reang lost her life after allegedly consuming poison-laced juice given by a minor boy during playtime. The incident took place on Thursday morning in Naisingpara village under North Tripura district. According to the bereaved father, the little girl, a KG-II student, had just returned from school and was playing with her neighborhood friends when the incident occurred.
Neither of her parents was at home at the time both were reportedly out on errands. It is alleged that a 10-year-old neighbor boy gave the children juice that was mixed with poison, claiming it was for fun. After consuming it, the children began to writhe in pain. One of the nearby mothers, upon discovering the situation, tasted the juice herself and also fell ill.
All of them were initially rushed to Kanchanpur hospital and later referred to the district hospital in Dharmanagar for further treatment. Doctors confirmed the death of one child, while three others, including the mother, are currently undergoing treatment.
Police have launched an investigation into the matter to determine the source of the poison and the circumstances under which it was administered. The incident has left the local community in deep shock and mourning.
