Agartala, July 1, 2025: Another successful kidney transplant was performed today at GBP Hospital, Agartala, marking the third such operation at the facility.
A team of specialist doctors from Shija Hospitals & Research Institute, Manipur, along with experts from the Urology and Nephrology departments of GBP Hospital, jointly carried out the procedure. Both the donor and recipient, residents of Radhanagar in Agartala, are reported to be in stable condition.
Speaking to All India Radio, Deputy Superintendent of GBP Hospital, Dr. Kanak Choudhury, confirmed the success of the operation. He also stated that the previous two transplant patients are also doing well.
Notably, the first kidney transplant at GBP Hospital was performed on June 8, 2024, followed by the second one in November the same year.
Reacting to this achievement, Tripura Chief Minister and Health Minister Dr. Manik Saha said on social media:
“As we prepare to celebrate Doctors’ Day tomorrow, I’m delighted to share that our doctors at AGMC & GBP Hospital, in collaboration with the medical team from Shija Hospitals & Research Institute, Manipur, have successfully performed their third kidney transplant. Both the donor and recipient are now in stable condition. This achievement reflects our medical team’s expertise and dedication. We hope to take on more advanced transplants in the future, including liver transplants.”
