Mangan, May 30 (IPR): A tourist vehicle met with an accident in the late evening of 29th May between Chungthang and Munshithang along Chungthang-Lachen highway. The vehicle, carrying a total of 10 tourists along with the driver plunged into Teesta river.
The local administration and police led by SDM Chungthang, SDPO Chungthang, along with the ITBP, Army and local people immediately sprung into action and began the search and rescue operation. A team of NDRF has also been deployed for the same.


Out of the 11 occupants in the vehicle, 2 persons have been rescued and have been referred to STNM Hospital, Gangtok, after preliminary treatment at Chungthang field hospital. Search is still on for the remaining 9 persons.
District Collector Mangan and SP Mangan are monitoring the search and rescue operations closely.
