Dharmanagar, May 30, 2025: In a significant breakthrough in the fight against narcotics, Dharmanagar Police in North Tripura district arrested a woman early Friday morning with a cache of yaba tablets, a pistol, and live ammunition.
Acting on a tip-off, a team from Dharmanagar Police Station conducted a raid in the Bhagyapur area around dawn and apprehended 25-year-old Mamuni Begum, wife of Mohammad Helal Uddin. The accused hails from Banbari locality, Ward No. 5 under Sunar’s Bazar area.
During the raid, police recovered 7,800 yaba tablets, one country-made pistol, and four rounds of ammunition from the residence of Helal Mia. According to police officials, the estimated black market value of the seized yaba tablets is around ₹20 lakh.
The operation was led by North Tripura Additional Superintendent of Police Jeremia Darlong and Dharmanagar Officer-in-Charge Smriti Kanta Bardhan, with the support of a large police force. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act and Arms Act (Case No. 52/2025), and further investigation is underway.
Speaking to the media, North Tripura SP Abhinash Rai (IPS) stated that the success of the raid was the result of swift and coordinated action based on credible intelligence. He further informed that following the appointment of the new Director General of Police, there has been a renewed push and clear directives for intensified anti-narcotics operations across the state.
“This is part of our continued crackdown on the drug network operating in the region. Such seizures are proof that Tripura Police remains vigilant and committed to eradicating the drug menace,” the SP added.
This incident underscores the growing challenges posed by the drug trade in the region and the police’s proactive approach to tackling it head-on.
