Tripura, 26 May 2025: A growing number of villagers from Kalagangarpar under Kadamtala police station have fallen prey to a massive online trading scam, allegedly orchestrated by a local youth. Over 20 individuals, many from economically weaker sections, claim they were duped of their hard-earned money with false promises of high returns through online investments.
The alleged mastermind, Dilowar Hussain, hailing from Ward No. 3 of Uttar Fulbari Gram Panchayat, reportedly collected lakhs of rupees from villagers by offering enticing profit margins. Victims say he posed as an online trading expert, gaining their trust through verbal and written agreements.
One of the complainants, Joba Das of Ward No. 6, Kalagangarpar GP, recounted her ordeal. She lent Dilowar ₹50,000 in April last year, followed by another ₹90,000 under a written loan agreement. Initially, Dilowar paid her monthly interest of ₹7,500 for two months, but then abruptly cut off all contact. Despite repeated attempts to recover her money, she was denied access to the accused and eventually filed a formal complaint with Kadamtala police.
“My husband is just a driver. We took a microfinance loan, thinking this would help us earn a little more. Now we’ve lost everything,” said Joba Das, her voice shaking with despair.
Another victim, Aynul Haque, a youth from South Piarachhara under Ranibari GP, said he was lured into giving ₹11.5 lakh to Dilowar in two phases. According to Aynul, Dilowar promised that if he failed to return the money, he would hand over his dozer vehicle. However, the promise was never fulfilled. Aynul later discovered that the entire sum was siphoned off into the fraudulent online trading network. He, too, has lodged a written complaint with the local police.
The victims have accused Dilowar of running a systematic scam, exploiting villagers’ financial vulnerabilities by offering fraudulent trading schemes. Most of the victims are from farming or low-income backgrounds and now face mounting debt.
As panic spreads across the area, local residents have demanded swift and strict action against the accused. Police at Kadamtala have confirmed receiving multiple complaints and said an investigation is underway.
While the accused remains absconding, pressure is mounting on law enforcement agencies to ensure justice for the victims and take necessary steps to curb the growing menace of online financial fraud in rural Tripura.
