Udaipur DM Avoids Meeting with Royal Scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya, Sparks Outrage Among Tipra Motha Supporters
Tripura, May 25, 2025: A controversy has erupted in Gomati district after Tripura royal scion and Tipra Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma was allegedly denied a meeting with District Magistrate Tarit Kanti Chakma on Sunday evening.
The incident reportedly occurred around 8:45 PM when Pradyot arrived at the official residence of the District Magistrate in Udaipur, hoping to hold discussions regarding local administrative issues. However, to his surprise, he was denied entry, with security personnel informing him that the DM was not available at the residence.
Sources close to Pradyot stated that he has been trying to reach DM Chakma for the past one month, but the latter has neither responded to phone calls nor replied to messages. “I just wanted to meet the DM regarding the issue in Ompi and others,” Pradyot was heard saying, visibly upset over the perceived snub.
According to the DM’s Personal Security Officer (PSO), the District Magistrate had “just left the residence” around the time of Pradyot’s arrival. However, Tipra Motha leaders and supporters suspect a deliberate avoidance. They have termed the incident as an “insult to the Bubagra” (a respectful term used for the royal head in the Indigenous community), expressing anger and disappointment over what they called “administrative arrogance.”
Tipra Motha party members have also criticized the behavior, stating that such treatment of a community leader with mass support is unacceptable. Many questioned whether DM Chakma’s conduct reflects an intentional disregard for the concerns of Indigenous leadership in the region.
