Tripura, 24 May 2025: In a major crackdown on the illegal drug trade, Teliamura police have seized narcotics worth over ₹2 lakh and arrested two individuals allegedly involved in drug trafficking. The operation was carried out based on a tip-off from a reliable source, police said.
Addressing the media, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Pannalal Sen stated that acting on specific intelligence, a police team conducted a search operation at a house located near the Gramin Bank in the Moharchhara area. During the raid, officials recovered 24 grams of illegal narcotics along with a substantial number of empty containers, believed to have been used for drug storage and distribution.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Prabha Ranjan Debbarma and Jaydev Debnath, who, according to the police, are related as maternal uncle and nephew. Both are suspected to be involved in the illicit drug trade in the region.
“The raid was conducted in full compliance with legal protocols. We are committed to cracking down on the drug menace in the area,” said SDPO Pannalal Sen.
Police have confirmed that a case has been registered against the accused under appropriate sections of the law, and further investigation is underway.
