Tripura, 20 May 2025: The establishment of a new hotel will not only boost the tourism industry in Tripura but also generate employment opportunities for those involved in the hotel and tourism sectors. More than 200 local youths will be employed in this upcoming hotel. Tourists visiting the state will have the opportunity to learn about the heritage, history, and culture of the Maharajas of Tripura. In addition to staying at the hotel, visitors are expected to explore major tourist destinations such as the iconic Mata Tripureshwari Temple, Neermahal, Unakoti, and other sites across the state.
Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha described the day as a historic one for Tripura. He mentioned that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for this hotel project was signed a few months ago, and with the lease agreement signed today, the work has officially commenced. Pushpavanta Palace, built in 1917 by Maharaja Birendra Kishore Manikya, previously served as the Raj Bhavan (Governor’s Residence). After the construction of the new Raj Bhavan, this historic building had remained unused. The present government, after assuming office, initiated discussions on how to make proper use of this heritage site.

The Chief Minister noted that similar luxury 5-star hotels exist in various states across the country, and with this agreement, Tripura will now also have access to such high-standard hospitality services. Retrofitting work on Pushpavanta Palace has already begun.
He further stated that tourists visiting urban areas will also be encouraged to explore rural tourist destinations. This will result in the socio-economic development of both urban and rural populations. Aligning with the Prime Minister’s vision of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat,” such initiatives will contribute to building a prosperous and unified “Ek Tripura, Shreshtha Tripura.”
Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury remarked that the hotel will not only promote tourism but also create significant employment opportunities. He expressed hope that such initiatives would contribute to the holistic development of Tripura.
Also present at the event were Secretary of the Department of Industries and Commerce Kiran Gitte, Area Director and General Manager of Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) Jayanta Das, and Tourism Secretary U. K. Chakma, who delivered the welcome address.
A major step in Tripura’s development, the lease agreement for the Taj Pushpavanta Palace Hotel was signed today between the Tata Group’s Indian Hotels Company Limited and the Tripura Tourism Department. The signing ceremony took place at the conference hall of the Tripura Institution for Transformation, with the aim of advancing the state’s tourism sector.
Dignitaries attending the event included Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Chief Minister’s Secretary Dr. P.K. Chakraborty, Secretary of Industries and Commerce Kiran Gitte, Tourism Secretary U.K. Chakma, Director of Tourism Prashant Badal Negi, OSD to the Chief Minister Paramananda Sarkar Banerjee, and IHCL Area Director and GM Jayanta Das.

IHCL will develop the hotel over 7.78 acres of the old Raj Bhavan, Pushpavanta Palace. The hotel will feature 100 rooms with royal aesthetics, including four exclusive rooms and several signature suites to offer guests a regal experience. Each room will be approximately 40 square meters in size.
The hotel will also include a wellness area, swimming pool, kids’ club, fitness center, and banquet hall. A convention hall covering 600 square meters and multiple breakout rooms are also part of the plan. The project ensures that Pushpavanta Palace will be well-maintained and preserved. As part of the prestigious Tata Group, the hotel is expected to attract both domestic and international tourists through its global network.
