Tripura, 15 May 2025: Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. L. Murugan, is on a two-day official visit to Tripura. During his visit, he participated in a district-level review meeting held this afternoon at the conference hall of the Circuit House in Belonia.
In the meeting, Dr. Murugan reviewed the progress of various government flagship schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), PM Janman, MGNREGA, Health Services, Social Welfare & Social Education, Agriculture, Education, Lakhpati Didi, Sports, Jal Jeevan Mission, Forest, and Balika Manch, among others. He stressed the importance of proper implementation of these flagship programs and said the primary objective of his visit was to assess whether there are any shortcomings in the functioning of different departments.

Dr. Murugan highlighted that the Prime Minister has given top priority to the development of border villages, especially in the northeastern region, and asserted that significant focus has been given to the border villages of Tripura as part of this mission. He reiterated the government’s commitment to building an “Atmanirbhar Bharat” (Self-Reliant India). He also spoke about the potential of exporting cashew nuts produced in South Tripura and expressed satisfaction over the work of various departments in the district, thanking officials for their efforts.
Following the review meeting, the Minister visited Belonia Sub-Divisional Hospital, where he interacted with child care and health center staff. He expressed satisfaction with the hospital’s infrastructure and services. Speaking to the media, Dr. Murugan said that the Prime Minister’s vision includes strengthening healthcare infrastructure at the primary level across the country and establishing at least one medical college in every district. He also informed that the number of medical seats in the country has been increased to 75,000.
Later, the Minister visited the Belonia Radio Station, where he reviewed the broadcasting services and interacted with station personnel. He advised broadcasting interviews of local public representatives to enhance community engagement
. Dr. Murugan was accompanied by District Magistrate Mohammad Sajjad P, South Tripura Zilla Parishad Chairperson Deepak Dutta, Chairperson of Belonia Municipal Council Nikhil Chandra Ghosh, and other concerned officials. The review meeting was also attended by the Zilla Parishad Chairperson, District Magistrate, Superintendent of Police, Sub-Divisional Magistrates, BDOs, and district-level officials from various departments.
