Gangtok, May 12, 2025: Incessant rainfall on the evening of May 12 led to a severe landslide above the 66/11 kV power sub-station at Sichey, causing major damage to the 11 kV control room and feeder panels.
The incident occurred around 6:30 PM, when sludge and water from the hillside entered the control room, damaging critical electrical equipment, the battery system, and even compromising the structural integrity of the building by affecting several columns.

Due to the extent of the damage, power supply to the Lower Sichey and Ranka areas has been disrupted. The Power Department has stated that restoration may take several days. All officers, from the Secretary to Junior Engineers and linesmen, are actively working on-site to assess the damage and initiate restoration efforts.
Consumers are requested to bear with the inconvenience as safety and repair work continues.
