Tripura, 30 April 2025: As part of the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation’s initiative, the construction of the Western Bypass along NH-08 is underway, stretching from Lembuchhara to Sabroom and linking to the Khowai Road. However, the road widening work particularly in the area between Border Gol Chakkar and Joypur Bridge has led to significant difficulties for local residents living on either side of the road. To address these issues, Mayor Deepak Majumder held a meeting on Wednesday at Border Gol Chakkar with affected residents.
West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, corporators Tushar Kanti Bhattacharya, Manoj Kanti Deb Roy, Nitu Guha Dey, and Ramnagar Mandal President Amitabh Bhattacharya were also present at the meeting. While the government has already acquired the required land for the project, problems have emerged due to disruption of essential services like water supply, electricity, and gas lines.
Construction work has led to frequent damage to gas pipelines and cables, adding to public inconvenience. Additionally, the absence of proper drainage systems has worsened waterlogging issues in the area. During the meeting, Mayor Majumder assured that the concerns of the residents were being taken seriously.
He emphasized that while road construction cannot be halted, public hardships must also be addressed. A high-level meeting is scheduled for tomorrow to find effective solutions and ensure the development work progresses with minimal disruption to daily life.
