Agartala, April 29, 2025: In a major step toward improving public health for women and children in Tripura, the National Health Mission, the Department of Health and Family Welfare, and the Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Dibrugarh, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today at Pragya Bhavan on 28 April.
The signing ceremony was attended by Kiran Gitte, Secretary of the Department of Health and Family Welfare; Professor (Dr.) Tapan Majumdar, Director of Health Services; Prashant Badal Negi, Mission Director of the National Health Mission; Dr. Anjan Das, Director of Family Planning and Disease Prevention; Dr. Subarna Roy, Director of RMRC; and Dr. Sanjay Rudrapal, Programme Officer of the National Health Mission, among others. Speaking at the event, Secretary Kiran Gitte emphasized that the health and wellbeing of mothers and children remain a top priority for the state government.

He highlighted that research is essential to identifying the root causes of health issues and formulating effective solutions. Tripura has made significant progress in healthcare in recent years. The infant mortality rate in the state stands at 18 per 1,000 live births, compared to the national average of 28.
Additionally, over 98% of women in Tripura now give birth at health institutions. Under the new MoU, the focus of research will include adolescent marriage and pregnancy, anemia, and neonatal mortality critical areas that impact maternal and child health outcomes in the state.
