One Dead, Four Injured in Head-On Collision Between Tomtom and Tipper Truck on Dharmanagar-Kailashahar National Highway
Tripura, 5 April 2025: In a tragic road accident this afternoon on the Dharmanagar-Kailashahar National Highway, a 12-year-old girl named Mihita Barman lost her life in a head-on collision between a high-speed tomtom and a stone-laden tipper truck. The accident also left four others seriously injured, including the tomtom driver.
The injured have been identified as Bhagyalakshmi Barman (50), Nayan Barman (9), Meera Barman (55), and the tomtom driver Hemanta Debnath (57), who is a resident of Gournagar, Kailashahar. According to eyewitnesses and initial reports, the incident occurred around 1:30 PM when a tomtom (registration number TR 02 C 2181) headed toward Dharmanagar collided head-on with a tipper truck (registration number TR 05 G 1504) that was coming from the opposite direction toward Kailashahar.
The accident happened near the Kalikapur area, where the road is reportedly in poor condition. The truck, traveling at a high speed, lost control due to the damaged road and rammed into the tomtom. Following the collision, passengers were thrown from the tomtom due to the impact. The tipper driver fled the scene immediately after the crash. Local residents rushed out after hearing the loud noise and promptly informed the fire and emergency services.
Rescue personnel arrived at the scene and rushed the injured to Dharmanagar District Hospital. Despite the best efforts of the medical staff, Mihita Barman was declared dead. The other victims, including the tomtom driver, are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital, where their condition remains critical.
