Tripura 11 March, 2025: Lakh Kailashahar police have achieved a major breakthrough by arresting two individuals with brown sugar worth approximately ₹4.5 lakh. Along with the contraband, the police also seized a motorcycle. The arrested individuals were presented before the Kailashahar Court on Tuesday, March 11.
Speaking to reporters, Kailashahar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sukanta Sen Chowdhury stated that acting on a tip-off, the police set up a checkpoint at Chinibagan area late at night. Around 2 AM, two youths approached the checkpoint on a Pulsar bike (Registration No. TR05C9956). The police immediately intercepted them.
During a body search conducted in the presence of a Deputy Magistrate, the police recovered five soap cases filled with brown sugar, with an estimated market value of ₹4.5 lakh. The police then took both individuals into custody.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Azizur Rahman and Saban Ali, both residents of Safrikandi, Kailashahar. OC Sukanta Sen Chowdhury further revealed that the duo had brought the contraband from Silchar, Assam, on their bike.
During overnight interrogation, they provided crucial information related to the drug trade. Police sources confirmed that the accused had been involved in drug trafficking for a long time. The police will seek their remand in court for further investigation, OC Sen Chowdhury added.
