Tripura 10 March, 2025: In a dramatic turn of events, notorious drug dealer Arjun Baidya was caught red-handed by local market traders while allegedly roaming around with narcotics for sale in broad daylight. On Monday morning, Arjun Baidya arrived at No. 1 Tilla Bazaar with multiple containers of heroin intending to sell them.
Some traders became suspicious of his movements and immediately apprehended him. Upon searching, they reportedly found over 30 containers of heroin in his pockets. The angry crowd tied him to a post at No. 1 Tilla Bazaar and informed the Belonia police. When the police arrived, the traders handed over both Arjun Baidya and the seized contraband. Arjun Baidya is said to be one of the most infamous drug traffickers in South Tripura, with a widespread network operating across the region. Some even refer to him as the kingpin of the local drug trade.
He hails from Sarkar Tilla, Tripura Bazaar, under Belonia police station. However, controversy surrounds his repeated escapes from the law. Despite being caught multiple times by women’s groups and local residents, allegations persist that the confiscated heroin mysteriously turns into flour, turmeric, and salt after reaching the police station, allowing Arjun to evade punishment. This has sparked public outrage across Belonia.
Residents claim that while the government is working hard to free the youth from drug addiction, criminals like Arjun Baidya continue to push the younger generation into substance abuse. There are growing demands for stricter enforcement of the NDPS Act to ensure that drug peddlers face severe legal consequences and do not escape justice.
