Tripura 8 March, 2025: As the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government in Tripura completes two years in office on March 8, 2025, the state has witnessed significant strides in infrastructure, social welfare, economic progress, and technological advancements. Guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’, the state government has focused on inclusive growth and participatory governance, aiming to build a developed and self-reliant Tripura.
Economic Growth and Social Welfare
The per capita income in Tripura has increased from ₹1,13,016 in 2018-19 to ₹1,77,723 in 2023-24, reflecting the state’s economic progress. Tripura has also received several national awards for its achievements in development programs. • Under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY), 6.08 lakh families have received 6.86 lakh metric tonnes of free ration so far, with 3.08 lakh metric tonnes distributed in the last two years. • The PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana has benefited 2,39,875 farmers with ₹842.62 crore in financial aid since 2018, including ₹287.16 crore in the past two years. • Under Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) and Mukhyamantri Jan Arogya Yojana, 4.30 lakh beneficiaries have received health insurance benefits out of 20.66 lakh registered beneficiaries. • The Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Livelihood Mission has formed 53,623 self-help groups (SHGs), connecting 4.84 lakh people to self-employment opportunities. Over the past two years, 1.19 lakh women have joined 9,066 new SHGs. • The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana has provided 3,64,847 households with free LPG connections since 2017-18, including 81,344 connections in the last two years.
Agricultural Support and Rural Development
• The Minimum Support Price (MSP) scheme has ensured direct purchase of 2,25,356 metric tonnes of paddy from farmers since 2018, with 53,908 metric tonnes purchased in the last two years. • A total of 3.60 lakh toilets have been constructed in households across the state since 2018, with 42,512 built in the last two years. Additionally, 436 community toilets have been set up during this period. • Since 2018, 3.76 lakh houses have been electrified, including 42,393 houses in the last two years.
Infrastructure and Connectivity
• 409 km of new national highways have been constructed since 2018, including 51 km in the past two years. • Rail connectivity has improved significantly, linking Tripura to more states, enhancing trade and travel. • Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport has been upgraded, leading to an increase in air traffic and economic activity.
Empowering Marginalized Communities
• The government has implemented multiple schemes to uplift Scheduled Tribes (STs), Scheduled Castes (SCs), Other Backward Classes (OBCs), and minority communities. • Scholarships for students from these communities have been more than doubled, with financial assistance extended for vocational courses and special coaching programs. • Under the Quadrilateral Agreement, resettled Bru families have been provided with housing, employment, free ration, and other essential services.
Education, Employment, and Industrial Growth
• Implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) has led to qualitative improvements in Tripura’s education system. • Since 2018, 17,645 regular government jobs have been provided, with 5,972 new appointments in the last two years. Recruitment is ongoing for an additional 8,252 positions. • The state has introduced the Tripura Start-Up Policy 2024 to promote entrepreneurship and self-reliance among youth. • A new industrial policy has been launched to encourage economic inclusivity and private sector participation.
Tourism and Cultural Development
• Improvements in tourism infrastructure have significantly increased visitor numbers, generating employment in the sector. • For the first time in its history, Tripura has introduced an official state logo, symbolizing its unique cultural identity. • Various measures have been taken to preserve and promote Tripura’s rich cultural heritage.
Law, Order, and Environmental Initiatives
• The state’s law and order situation has seen remarkable improvement, with a strong crackdown on drug abuse. • Plastic-Free Tripura Campaign was launched in July 2023 to tackle environmental pollution. • 22,548 hectares of barren land have been converted into forest areas. • The state has 11 bio-villages, receiving national recognition for environmental conservation.
Sports and Youth Development
• Enhanced sports infrastructure has enabled Tripura to successfully host national-level tournaments. • Special schemes have been introduced to support athletes and nurture young sports talents.
Disaster Management and Climate Resilience
• The government efficiently handled the devastating floods in August 2024, providing relief, compensation, and rehabilitation to affected families. As the government enters its third year, it remains committed to fostering growth, self-reliance, and inclusive development while strengthening Tripura’s position as an economically and socially progressive state.
