Tripura 5 March, 2025: A man has been arrested in connection with a job scam at Tripura University. The accused, identified as Sukanta Chowdhury, was taken into custody based on specific allegations against him. He was presented before the court on Tuesday, and the police have taken him into remand for further investigation.
Recruitment processes are currently underway for various departments at Tripura University. It is alleged that Sukanta Chowdhury was collecting money from job seekers by promising them employment. Based on these complaints, the police arrested him. According to Amtali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Himadri Sarkar, further interrogation during his remand is expected to reveal more details.
Reports suggest that a larger network is involved in this job scam at Tripura University. This group has allegedly been extorting large sums of money from individuals by falsely promising them jobs. Following multiple complaints at Amtali Police Station, the police launched an investigation and eventually arrested Sukanta Chowdhury, who is believed to be associated with a nationalist political party.
OC Himadri Sarkar confirmed that the accused was taken into custody on Monday night. He allegedly extracted large sums of money from unemployed youth under the pretense of securing them jobs. The police have sought a two-day remand for further questioning. Notably, rumors are widespread within Tripura University regarding recruitment irregularities. It has been alleged that the wife of a local Mandal President secured a permanent Group-D position under questionable circumstances. However, after being in custody, Sukanta Chowdhury was granted bail yesterday.
Despite obtaining a certificate from an open board, its authenticity was never verified by the university authorities. There are even claims that the recruited candidate lacks basic skills, such as making photocopies.
While the accused is now out on bail, the investigation into the larger job scam network continues.
