Tripura 4 March, 2025: Khowai police seized nearly half a quintal of dry cannabis from a vehicle on Tuesday morning. The vehicle was reportedly traveling towards Kamalpur via the Khowai-Mohanpur-Agartala road when it was intercepted. The police seized the contraband and arrested the driver.
Acting upon credible intelligence received from a confidential source, Ripon Achi, in-charge of the Baijalbari police outpost, set up surveillance on the Belfang National Highway early in the morning. Based on confirmed intelligence that a cannabis-laden vehicle was heading towards Khowai from the Agartala-Mohanpur route, police intercepted it at the Belfang checkpoint. Upon searching, they recovered nearly half a quintal of dry cannabis.
The police seized the contraband and arrested the driver, identified as 35-year-old Nirmal Das, a resident of Gopalnagar, Sidhai. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act. According to police estimates, the confiscated cannabis is worth approximately ₹5 lakh.
The raid was led by Khowai Police Station OC Subir Malakar and Khowai Sub-Divisional Police Officer Ranga Dulal Debbarma, along with Baijalbari police personnel.
