Agartala, February 25, 2025: Yesterday, Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu emphasized that financial literacy among women can bring fundamental changes in families and society. Women can easily avail the benefits of government schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, and PM Ujjwala Yojana, he said. He made these remarks while inaugurating the Financial Literacy Week 2025 celebration, organized by the Agartala branch of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) at Hotel Polo Towers. The theme of this year’s Financial Literacy Week is “Financial Literacy, Empowered Women.” The Governor highlighted that financial literacy is crucial, especially in geographically disadvantaged regions like Tripura. Such initiatives will help bridge the existing financial awareness gap and equip women with the necessary skills to manage their finances efficiently.
He further stated that women’s financial empowerment is not just about personal progress but also plays a vital role in nation-building, economic growth, and creating a self-reliant society. He urged women to actively participate in managing household finances and contribute to building a stronger society and nation. Governor Nallu acknowledged that women have set remarkable examples in business, trade, and entrepreneurship. Their leadership is evident not only in financial sectors but also in social movements and cultural spheres.
However, increased awareness of digital banking, online payments, and government subsidies would enhance their participation in the economy. Despite traditional societal norms, women today have proven their capabilities across various fields. He further remarked that women are not only the most reliable service providers within families but also the torchbearers of culture, values, and traditions. Moreover, they are taking up key roles in politics, contributing equally to shaping the nation’s future.
He urged all stakeholders to come forward to promote financial literacy and empower women across the state. The event featured a welcome address by Surendra Nidar, General Manager of RBI Agartala Branch. Additional Secretary of the Small Savings Department, Rakhi Biswas, also delivered a speech. Satyendra Singh, Chairman of Tripura Gramin Bank, along with other dignitaries, attended the event. As part of the program, a documentary on financial literacy was showcased.
