Agartala, February 20, 2025: Raising awareness about women’s rights is crucial, and the National Commission for Women (NCW) is actively working toward this goal, said NCW member Dr. Archana Majumdar at a press conference held at the State Guest House this evening. She emphasized that the Tripura Women’s Commission is also playing a significant role in safeguarding women’s rights and that various initiatives will be undertaken to raise awareness among women in Tripura’s remote areas.
Tripura Women’s Commission Chairperson Jharna Debbarma was also present at the event. On the second day of her visit to the state, Dr. Archana Majumdar inspected the maternity and gynecology departments of Agartala Government Medical College. She noted that healthcare services in the state have improved significantly, with the introduction of modern medical equipment and the ongoing development of new infrastructure at the medical college. Once completed, these facilities will further enhance healthcare services. She also reviewed issues like child marriage, maternal and infant mortality rates, and found that Tripura’s maternal and infant mortality rates are comparatively better than the national average.
Additionally, she visited the One-Stop Center in Agartala and expressed satisfaction with its infrastructure and services. She observed that incidents of violence against women have also decreased. Dr. Archana Majumdar stressed the need for increased awareness about the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the importance of educating women about their rights.
She reiterated that the Women’s Commission is committed to connecting more people with its initiatives and ensuring women are well-informed about their rights. She concluded by stating, “Without the progress of women, neither the state nor the country can develop.” Tomorrow, she is scheduled to visit various other locations in the state.
