Imphal, February 20, 2025: In a crucial appeal aimed at restoring normalcy in the conflict-hit state, the Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, has urged individuals in both the Valley and Hills to voluntarily surrender illegally possessed weapons within the next seven days. Addressing the public, the Governor acknowledged the immense hardships faced by the people over the past 20 months due to ongoing violence and disturbances.

He emphasized that returning looted and illegal arms would be a significant step toward ensuring peace and communal harmony. “In the greater interest of restoring normalcy, all communities must come forward to ensure cessation of hostilities and maintenance of peace and order in society,” he stated. He assured that no punitive action would be taken against those who surrender their weapons within the stipulated timeframe. However, strict measures would be enforced against individuals found in possession of illegal arms after the deadline.
The Governor reiterated the government’s commitment to a peaceful resolution and safeguarding the future of Manipur’s youth. “Let us rebuild our state together with hope and trust for a brighter future. Come forward and choose peace,” he urged. The appeal comes amid ongoing tensions in the state, where violence has disrupted lives and livelihoods. Security agencies are expected to facilitate the surrender process, and the authorities hope for a positive response from all sections of society.
