Tripura 14 Feb, 2025: A preparatory meeting for the celebration of International Women’s Day was held today at the Secretariat under the chairmanship of Social Welfare & Social Education Minister Tinku Roy. This year’s theme for International Women’s Day is “For All Women and Girls: Rights, Equality, Empowerment.”
During the meeting, Minister Tinku Roy advised department officials to conduct a statewide awareness campaign focusing on social issues such as the prevention of child marriage and underage pregnancies. He also emphasized organizing awareness sessions on health and social issues for women workers engaged in brick kilns, tea gardens, and various industries and factories.
As part of the celebrations, the meeting stressed the importance of awareness campaigns among female students from classes 9 to 12 on the harmful effects of child marriage and early pregnancy. State Women’s Commission Chairperson Jharna Debbarma suggested organizing discussions at the panchayat level in rural areas to prevent crimes against women. Additionally, the Director of the Social Welfare & Social Education Department, Tapan Kumar Das, presented the planned programs for International Women’s Day.
The meeting also discussed several initiatives for the celebration, including a bicycle rally, social media campaigns, a mini-marathon, football matches, debate competitions at school and college levels, distribution of nutritious food among female sanitation workers of Agartala Municipal Corporation, and the distribution of health-related kits. The discussion also covered the state-level celebrations of International Women’s Day.
Among others, the meeting was attended by Tripura Child Protection Commission Chairperson Jayanti Debbarma, Social Welfare and Social Education Department Secretary Tapas Roy, and officials from various relevant departments.
