Tripura 14 Feb, 2025: An innocent laborer was brutally assaulted by the Teliamura police in broad daylight, triggering public outrage and a two-hour road blockade on the Teliamura-Amarpur road. The incident took place on Thursday near the Gamai Bari Electric Office.
According to reports, Teliamura Police Station’s ASI Dwiju Chandra Das, along with his associates, engaged in open hooliganism under the pretense of patrolling the Gamai Bari area on Thursday night. ASI Das has allegedly been running a reign of terror in the Teliamura police jurisdiction for a long time. A few months ago, he was caught on camera extorting money under the guise of vehicle checking in Netaji Nagar. Despite media exposure and public outrage, he continues to serve at Teliamura Police Station without any consequences.
On Thursday night, ASI Dwiju Chandra Das and his men allegedly assaulted an innocent laborer named Swapan Biswas in a manner reminiscent of colonial-era police brutality. The victim was mercilessly beaten with batons, left bloodied, and abandoned on the roadside. Such actions raise serious questions about the conduct of Teliamura police officers, particularly when the state government, under Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, envisions a progressive and developed Tripura. Officers like Dwiju Chandra Das, accused of corruption, incompetence, and misuse of power, are reportedly tarnishing the government’s reputation.
Following the brutal attack, firefighters from the Teliamura Fire Department rescued Swapan Biswas and rushed him to Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment. Meanwhile, outraged locals blocked the Teliamura-Amarpur road in protest, chanting slogans like “Down with Dwiju!” and “Shame on Teliamura Police!”The situation quickly escalated, prompting Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Pannalal Sen to intervene. He arrived at the scene and assured the protesters, as well as Swapan Biswas’ family, that a proper investigation would be conducted and strict action would be taken against the guilty officers.
