Tripura 13 Feb, 2025: A three-day Khowai District-Level Saras Mela and District-Level Fish Festival began yesterday at the Khowai Government Higher Secondary School Ground. The festival was inaugurated in the evening by MLA Kalyani Saha Roy, Chief Whip of the Legislative Assembly.
While inaugurating the event, she emphasized the state government’s commitment to women’s self-reliance, stating that the progress of the state and country is not possible without empowering women. She also mentioned that women, through Self-Help Groups (SHGs), are becoming “Lakhpati Didis” (women earning over a lakh rupees annually).
The welcome speech was delivered by Khowai District Magistrate Chandni Chandran. Other dignitaries present at the event included Debashish Nath Sharma, Chairperson of Khowai Municipal Council; Anukul Das, Member of Khowai Zilla Parishad; Additional District Magistrates Sumit Kumar Pandey and Abhijit Chakraborty; and Khowai Sub-Divisional Magistrate Charu Verma.
During the event, five successful women fish farmers were felicitated. The three-day Saras Mela and Fish Festival features 49 stalls, with participation from Self-Help Groups across Khowai, Teliamura, Mungiakami, Kalyanpur, Padmabil, and Tulashikhar blocks.
