Udaipur, Feb 12: Yesterday, Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy inaugurated the three-day-long 20th Rajarshi Festival at Rajnagar, Udaipur, emphasizing the importance of preserving Tripura’s history and heritage. He stated that along with safeguarding historical sites, their development is also crucial. The Bhubaneswari Temple, being a significant historical site, hosts the annual Rajarshi Festival, highlighting the state’s rich cultural traditions.
Addressing the gathering, the Finance Minister described Rajarshi Festival as one of the most prestigious cultural celebrations in the state. He announced the state government’s plans to develop the temple premises by constructing a modern park. Efforts are also underway to establish Udaipur as a cultural hub, with the ongoing beautification of the city, including its lakes. He further mentioned that the development work of the Tripurasundari Temple is nearing completion. Being the former capital of Tripura, Udaipur holds immense historical significance, and he urged the people to contribute to its development.
Padma Shri awardee and former Vice-Chancellor of Tripura University, Prof. Arunoday Saha, also spoke at the event, describing Udaipur as the cultural capital of Tripura. He elaborated on the close ties between Rabindranath Tagore and the royal family of Tripura. The welcome address was delivered by Binoy Bhushan Das, Additional District Magistrate of Gomati district.
The event was presided over by Udaipur Municipal Council Chairperson Shital Chandra Majumder, while other dignitaries present included Gomati Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Debal Debroy, MLA Jitendra Majumder, Matabari Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Shilpi Das, and Udaipur Sub-Divisional Magistrate Tridip Sarkar.
Various government departments have set up exhibition stalls as part of the festival. A series of cultural programs are also being held to celebrate the occasion. The festival will continue until February 13.
