Tripura 11 Jan, 2025: The Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Tinku Roy, addressed recent media reports regarding alleged violations of the state’s reservation policy in the recruitment of Junior PI (Group-C) posts under his department. Speaking at a press conference in his office at the Secretariat yesterday, the minister clarified that the recruitment process strictly adheres to the government’s reservation policy.
He referred to the recruitment notification issued on February 7, 2025, for 301 Junior PI (Group-C) posts, which had prompted MDC Pradyot Kishore Debbarma and MLA Ranjit Debbarma to seek clarification regarding reservation compliance through official correspondence.
The minister stated that the recruitment process is based on the approved number of Junior PI posts, which stands at 770. Of these, 131 posts are reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC), 239 for Scheduled Tribes (ST), and 400 for the general category. At present, the department has 82 SC employees, 195 ST employees, and 110 general-category employees working in these posts.
Providing historical context, the minister explained that in 2009, the Finance Department had approved the recruitment of 200 Junior PIs to fill 226 vacancies. Following the reservation norms, 60 SC candidates, 126 ST candidates, and 13 general-category candidates were appointed, significantly filling ST-reserved posts at that time.
Recently, the Finance Department approved the recruitment of 301 Junior PI posts out of 383 vacant positions, leading to the issuance of a new recruitment notification. The current vacancies include 35 SC posts, 18 ST posts, and 248 general-category posts. He further emphasized that when combining the number of existing Junior PI employees with the newly advertised vacancies, the total distribution of posts aligns perfectly with reservation policies: 117 SC, 213 ST, and 358 general-category positions.
Minister Tinku Roy assured that the recruitment process strictly follows the 100% reservation roster and the Tripura SC-ST Reservation Rules, 1992.
The press conference was also attended by Dr. P.K. Chakraborty, Secretary of the Youth Affairs and Sports Department, and S.B. Nath, Director of the department.
