Tripura 7 Feb, 2025: The state government aims to build a developed and self-reliant Tripura. To achieve this, the youth are being encouraged to establish industries through skill development. Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha stated this while launching the ‘Skill Uday Tongnai’ program at the TIT Auditorium in Narsingarh today.
During the event, the Chief Minister said that this program aims to empower 80,000 students from schools and colleges across the state, enhance employment opportunities, and develop them as entrepreneurs. He emphasized that this initiative marks the beginning of a new era in skill development for the youth of the state. Notably, the name ‘Skill Uday Tongnai’ is a combination of English, Bengali, and Kokborok languages, meaning ‘Rise and Awakening of Skills.’
As part of this program, career guidance will be introduced in 983 schools under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, benefiting 75,000 students by helping them choose the right career path and overcome obstacles in various fields. Additionally, a Market Readiness Course will be launched through the NSDC Academy. Under the Chief Minister’s Skill Development Scheme, in collaboration with NSDC Academy, 7,000 students will receive training in GST, Income Tax Filing, Cyber Security, Web Designing, and 2D Animation.
Under the ‘Skill Uday Tongnai’ program, the English, Employability, and Entrepreneurship (EEE) Initiative will provide training in communication skills, employment readiness, and entrepreneurship to 1,600 college students in the state. Furthermore, the Skill Tripura MIS Portal will assist job seekers in training programs under the Chief Minister’s Skill Development Scheme. The Chief Minister also unveiled the Career Guidance Program and Skill Development Calendar during the event.
Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha further stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has implemented the Act East Policy to promote the development of the Northeast region and introduced the HIRA Model for Tripura. He highlighted the significant progress in road, rail, air, and internet services in the state. The Chief Minister emphasized that the Prime Minister always prioritizes skill development and practical knowledge to make the youth self-reliant and actively contribute to national growth. He stressed that there is no shortage of talent in Tripura, and the government is working towards the proper development of these talents to advance the state. The Chief Minister also underscored the importance of utilizing rubber, agar, and tea the state’s natural resources for industrial development.
Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma stated that the government has launched this initiative to make the youth self-reliant. She expressed confidence that this program would play a crucial role in building a One Tripura, Best Tripura. As part of the initiative, with financial assistance from the North Eastern Council (NEC), toolkits were officially distributed to trained individuals in sewing machine operation, mushroom farming, beekeeping, vermicomposting, food processing, and solar panel installation.
A documentary on various skill development programs, including the Chief Minister’s Skill Development Scheme, was presented during the event. Industries and Commerce Department Secretary Kiran Gitte, in his welcome speech, emphasized that knowledge must be accompanied by skill, which is the foundation of the ‘Skill Uday Tongnai’ initiative. Additional remarks were made by Mohammad Sajjad P., Director of the Skill Development Department, and Ravel Hemendra Kumar, Special Secretary of the Education Department.
