Press Conference by Tribal Welfare Minister: Bhagwan Birsa Munda Football Tournament Begins Tomorrow
Tripura 4 Feb, 2025: As part of the Janajatiya Gaurav Varsh celebrations, the Bhagwan Birsa Munda Football Tournament 2025 will commence tomorrow. The competition is being organized among tribal hostels across the state. The inauguration will take place at Umakanta Football Stadium at 2 PM, with Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury as the chief guest. Special guests include Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder and Secretary Brijesh Pandey, while Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma will preside over the event. The tournament will continue until February 8.
Speaking at a press conference held at Bhagat Singh Youth Hostel, Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma shared details about the event. The conference was attended by Director of the Tribal Welfare Department Subhasis Das and Additional Director Keshab Kar.
The minister stated that the tournament is being organized to mark the 150th birth anniversary of legendary tribal leader Bhagwan Birsa Munda, as part of the nationwide Janajatiya Gaurav Varsh celebrations. A total of 16 teams (boys and girls) from all 8 districts of Tripura will participate in the tournament. The district-level winners from various tribal hostels have qualified for the final rounds.
The theme of the tournament is “Football is Game, Drugs are Shame,” aiming to spread awareness among youth against drug addiction.
Prize Details:
• Champion Teams (Boys & Girls): Trophy + ₹1,00,000
• Runners-up Teams: Trophy + ₹75,000
• Third Place Teams: Trophy + ₹50,000
• Fair Play Award: Trophy + ₹25,000
• Best Player of the Tournament: Trophy + ₹10,000
• Top Goal Scorer: Trophy + ₹10,000
• Best Goalkeeper: Trophy + ₹10,000
• Man of the Match (Each Game): Trophy + ₹1,000
The Tribal Welfare Minister also announced that, under the Suvarna Jayanti Tripura Nirman Yojana, three synthetic football grounds are being constructed in Deorachhara (Unakoti), Killa (Gomati), and Mungiakami (Khowai) districts at a total cost of ₹16.10 crore. Additionally, the department has distributed sports equipment to all tribal hostels to encourage youth participation in sports.
He expressed hope that with the support and initiatives of the Tribal Welfare Department, more sports talents will emerge from the tribal communities and make the state proud in various competitions.
Following the press conference, the minister unveiled the tournament trophies and handed over jerseys to the captains of the 16 participating teams from the eight districts.
