State Government Launches Initiative to Protect Youth from Substance Abuse
Tripura 12 Jan, 2025: Yesterday, The state government has taken a significant step toward creating a drug-free society. However, achieving this goal is not possible for the administration alone; it requires collective effort. Speaking at the inauguration of the “Jagriti-2025” program at Rajarshi Hall in Udaipur, Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy emphasized the importance of youth commitment in building a drug-free society. He highlighted that raising awareness about the harmful effects of drugs among students at schools, colleges, and universities can benefit society. Additionally, he stressed the need for public awareness regarding consumer rights.



The Jagriti-2025 program aims to promote road safety, consumer protection, and a drug-free society. It is organized jointly by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, and the Transport Department, with support from the Department of Higher Education. The first phase of the program included colleges from South Tripura, Gomati, and Sepahijala districts and featured a mega quiz competition.
Leaders Advocate for Youth Involvement
Transport and Food Minister Sushanta Chowdhury , the chief guest of the event, called upon the youth to actively promote awareness about consumer protection, road safety, and the dangers of substance abuse. He remarked that human resources are the greatest asset and expressed optimism that the collective efforts of young men and women, along with society at large, can build a drug-free community.
Cooperation Minister Shukla charan Noatia mentioned that the Jagrati initiative includes quiz competitions to raise awareness about the adverse effects of drug addiction and consumer protection laws.
Justice Arindam Lodh of the Tripura High Court praised the government’s initiative, emphasizing that creating awareness among college and university students about the harmful effects of drugs and consumer protection laws can significantly benefit society.
Other dignitaries present at the event included Secretary of the Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department, Raval Hemendra Kumar; Gomati Zilla Parishad Chairperson, Debal Debroy; MLAs Ranjit Das, Abhishek Debroy, Kishore Barman, and Jitendra Majumdar; and Udaipur Municipal Council Chairperson, Sheetal Chandra Majumdar. The welcome address was delivered by Sumit Lodh, Director of the Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department.
Mega Quiz Competition
Students from various colleges in South Tripura, Gomati, and Sepahijala districts participated in the mega quiz competition. Six teams were selected for the final round. The winners were:
1. First Place: Shreya Modak and Abhijit Chakraborty (Award: LED TV)
2. Second Place: Karanjit Pal and Abhijit Debnath (Award: Smartphone)
3. Third Place: Aditi Das and Prosenjit Debnath (Award: Smartwatch)
The winning teams will participate in the state-level Jagriti-2025 quiz competition.
