Tripura 18 December, 2024: Amid the ongoing instability in Bangladesh, the illegal movement of Bangladeshi nationals into India continues unabated. Tripura has become a key corridor for these migrants, who are often facilitated by middlemen operating for hefty fees without proper documentation. These networks, prioritizing profits, are posing serious security challenges for Indian authorities.
On Tuesday night around 2 AM, Kadamtala police detained an elderly woman and a minor girl near the Ichai Tulgaon area along the Indo-Bangla border during routine patrolling. Upon questioning, it was revealed that they had illegally entered India with the help of a middleman network.
Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) D.M. Chakma brought them to Kadamtala police station, where further interrogation confirmed their Bangladeshi citizenship. A case was registered under Section 3 of the Indian Passport Act, 1920 (Case No. 81/24). The detainees were identified as Mosha Rubeya (60) and a 15-year-old minor, both residents of Sindarpara village under the Nira police station in Bangladesh. On Wednesday, the accused were presented before Dharmanagar District Court.
This incident has once again raised serious concerns about the efficiency of border security forces. Despite strict measures and heightened vigilance due to Bangladesh’s unstable political situation, frequent illegal crossings continue. The district administration is now under pressure to take stringent actions to curb this ongoing security threat.
