Tripura 18 December, 2024: Agartala Government Dental College has become a significant milestone in the field of health education in Tripura, said Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha during the 2nd Foundation Day celebration held at Agartala Town Hall. Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s sincere efforts for making the long-standing dream of establishing a dental college in the state a reality. The college was officially inaugurated on December 18, 2022, by the Prime Minister at the IGM Hospital complex.
CM Dr. Manik Saha emphasized the need to develop the college into an institution that its students can be proud of. He also called for fostering strong bonds between faculty and students and urged parents to remain vigilant about their children’s attendance.
Highlighting infrastructure development, the Chief Minister mentioned that facilities like laser treatment and a 3D printing lab have been introduced. Efforts are also underway to enhance learning, research, and patient care services. The BDS course commenced in the 2023-24 academic session with an intake of 50 students, which has now increased to 63 seats.
CM Dr. Manik Saha reiterated the state government’s commitment to providing quality healthcare to citizens and highlighted the ongoing improvements in health infrastructure. District hospitals are being upgraded to reduce the pressure on state-level hospitals. Notably, kidney transplantation services have begun at Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC), and discussions are underway to introduce liver transplantation. Additionally, AGMC has launched nine super-specialty departments, and a private super-specialty hospital is being planned with an investment of ₹700 crore.
The event was also attended by key officials, including Prof. (Dr.) Shalu Rai, Principal of Agartala Government Dental College, Additional Secretary of the Health Department Rajib Dutta, Director of Health & Family Welfare Dr. Anjan Das, Director of Medical Education Dr. Harprasad Sharma, and Director of Tripura Health Services Dr. Sanjib Debbarma.
Meritorious students from the 2023-24 BDS batch were awarded, along with winners of various sports competitions held during the college’s sports week. The Chief Minister handed over trophies and certificates to the awardees.
