Agartala 11 December, 2024: Acting on a tip-off, the East Agartala police intercepted an alleged attempt to smuggle cannabis from Jogendranagar railway station to other states. A team, led by Women Inspector Kamala Murasing, Narayan Dey, and College Tilla Outpost OC Shyamal Debnath, conducted a search operation in the station area.
During the operation, approximately 8.4 kg of dry cannabis packed in 15 packets was recovered from two women Putul Devi and Sangeeta Devi Mandal, residents of Bihar. The accused were brought to East Agartala Police Station for further interrogation.
Reliable sources revealed that the duo had procured the cannabis from the Badharghat area of Agartala for transportation to Bihar, allegedly for a high-value deal with a Bihar-based cannabis dealer. The case appears to involve a larger inter-state cannabis and drug trafficking network that uses individuals to transport contraband from Tripura to Bihar.
Agents from Jogendra nagar and Badharghat railway stations are reportedly involved in the smuggling activities. They use small three- and four-wheeler vehicles to transport cannabis from areas like Sidhai and Sonamura to railway stations, where the contraband is handed over to transporters, both men and women.
The two women have been sent to court, and the East Agartala police, led by OC Rana Chatterjee, have requested police custody for further investigation.
