Inauguration of Agriculture Golden Prosperity Week at Salema: Sustainable Agricultural Development a Priority for the State Government, Says Agriculture Minister
Salema 6 December, 2024: The State Government has prioritized sustainable agricultural development as a cornerstone of its agenda, according to Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratanlal Nath. He emphasized this commitment while inaugurating the Agriculture Golden Prosperity Week at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Salema today.
The event also marked the observance of World Soil Day and the distribution of essential agricultural inputs. Speaking on the occasion, the minister highlighted the importance of adopting appropriate techniques to enhance soil fertility, which could significantly boost the state’s agricultural sector.
“The growth of agriculture depends on scientific farming practices and timely sowing of seeds. If farmers adopt these methods, new opportunities will emerge in the sector,” said Minister Nath. He assured that the government would always stand by farmers to support their welfare and development.
Agriculture experts from the Salema KVK provided valuable guidance to farmers on soil health management and modern farming techniques. Discussions were also held on the role and future plans of the KVK in promoting agricultural advancements.
As part of the program, 50 metric tons of potato seeds, organic fertilizers, pesticides, and modern agricultural equipment were distributed among the farmers. The event also witnessed the launch of several publications by the Salema Krishi Vigyan Kendra.
The occasion was graced by dignitaries including Sushmita Das, Sabhadhipati of Dhalai Zilla Parishad; MLAs Manoj Kanti Deb, Shambhulal Chakma, Swapna Das Paul, and Paul Dangshu; and Pradip Baran Roy, member of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department Director Shardindu Das was also present.
The event underscored the government’s commitment to ensuring agricultural prosperity through collaborative efforts between farmers, experts, and policymakers.
