Agartala, Tripura: The Atal Bihari Vajpayee Regional Cancer Centre (ABVRCC) has made history by successfully performing a complex Total Thyroidectomy procedure on a 65-year-old woman suffering from Stage-IV Thyroid Cancer. This groundbreaking surgery marks a significant advancement in cancer treatment within the state of Tripura.
A Challenging Case:
The patient, hailing from Gomati district, faced severe breathing difficulties due to the cancer’s spread to her windpipe. The ABVRCC medical team, led by a team of experienced Head and Neck Oncology specialists, swiftly intervened with an Emergency Tracheostomy to alleviate her respiratory distress.
A Complex Procedure:
On November 22, 2024, the team underwent a six-hour-long surgery involving Total Thyroidectomy, Trachea Resection, and Anastomosis. This intricate procedure required the removal of the affected thyroid gland and reconstruction of the windpipe.
