Agartala 30 Oct, 2024: At the Diwali celebration held at the 2nd Battalion TSR camp in Binan Cobra Para, Mandai, Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha commended the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) for their invaluable role in maintaining law and order and their commendable efforts in combating terrorism in the state. Highlighting TSR’s contributions, he emphasized that the TSR, known for their valor and camaraderie, has brought pride to Tripura by serving the state and the nation with unwavering dedication.
During the event, the Chief Minister announced a six-point plan to enhance the welfare of TSR personnel. These measures include doubling the ration money allowance to Rs. 2,000, increasing the uniform allowance to Rs. 12,000, allocating Rs. 5 lakh for gymnasium facilities in each battalion, raising the monthly honorarium for medical officers to Rs. 60,000, promoting 240 jawans on an ad-hoc basis, and earmarking Rs. 5 crore for repairs and maintenance of TSR posts and barracks.
In his address, CM Saha acknowledged TSR’s contributions beyond counter-terrorism, such as disaster management, industrial security, anti-drug operations, VIP protection, and international assignments. He praised the TSR’s effectiveness in maintaining security during state and national elections, as well as providing backup security along the state’s 856-kilometer international border in collaboration with the BSF.
The CM also noted the induction of 137 female jawans into the TSR as a landmark step toward inclusivity within the state’s forces. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for fostering peace and stability across Northeast India.
The event was attended by senior officials including Tripura’s Director General of Police Amitabh Ranjan, 2nd Battalion Commandant Narayan Ray Choudhury, and Additional Director General G.S. Rao, who extended their Diwali wishes to the TSR jawans and celebrated the festival with the distribution of sweets.
The Chief Minister concluded by expressing his gratitude to the TSR for upholding the ‘Pride of Tripura’ and wished the jawans a joyful and safe Diwali.
