Agartala, 19th October 2024: Rajesh Tripura, owner of News8 channel, was arrested on Saturday afternoon by the West Police Station. He is accused of being involved in illegal land deals and defrauding several shops by improperly managing payments for CCTV cameras and TVs, amounting to ₹9 crore.
The officer-in-charge of the station, Paritosh Das, confirmed that strict action was taken based on these serious allegations against Rajesh Tripura. He further revealed that the accused will be presented in court with a request for a five-day remand.
The case was lodged by Himanshu Panchal, director of World Education Mission, who accused Rajesh Tripura and five others of fraudulently taking ₹9 crore, promising land to the mission. This led to the police arresting three other individuals earlier in connection with the case.
Rajesh Tripura was arrested late Friday night from his home in the Chanmari area. In addition to the land fraud, Rajesh Tripura is also accused of defrauding several shops in Agartala, including those selling TVs and CCTV systems, collecting up to ₹10 lakh under false pretenses.
