Agartala, 19th October 2024: The Sadar Town District Congress staged a protest today at the Human Rights Commission office in Shyamali Bazar, criticizing the commission’s silence over the increasing reports of alleged human rights violations in Tripura.
Led by local Congress leaders, party workers surrounded the commission’s office in a gherao, demanding an explanation for the commission’s inaction amidst growing incidents of concern across the state. Protesters voiced their anger, stating that the very body responsible for upholding human rights has failed to respond to the deteriorating situation.
During the demonstration, Congress members draped the commission’s signboard with black flags, symbolizing their discontent with what they described as the commission’s apathy. The protest drew significant public attention, as Congress leaders called for immediate steps to protect citizens’ rights and hold authorities accountable.
The Congress party has vowed to continue its protests until the Human Rights Commission addresses their concerns and takes concrete steps to address the ongoing issues in the region.
