In a rejoinder issued in response to the news item titled “Cong says Rs. 564 crore fund flood victims illegal”, published in Tripura Times dated September 11, 2024, it has been clarified by the Revenue Department, Government of Tripura that the Chief Minister of Tripura had announced a financial package of Rs. 564 crore during the Assembly session, aimed at providing immediate relief and facilitating restoration activities across departments.
The announcement was made following a request from various departments, which sought immediate financial resource in light of the flood situation. Accordingly, a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister was convened on August 27, 2024 to assess the requirements of various departments, where the need for immediate release of funds was discussed. Subsequently, on August 30, 2024, Departmental Secretaries made presentations before the Cabinet and requested some funds for relief and restoration activities.
Thereafter the departments were consulted on their immediate requirement of fund. Thus, the formulation of the financial package was carried out after extensive consultations with the concerned departments. Moreover, the Finance Department was also consulted, and package was finalized after the consent of the Finance Department. Hence, the process followed and formulating the relief package adhered to proper procedures and involved the necessary consultations with the relevant authorities.
